Welcome JJJJRN

Hi to Jessie, Jess, Joshua, Jacob, Royce and Nathalie (Dave fellow leader). If I call anyone ‘J’ I should be right.

1,000 year Pill?

One student shared that if he could he would take a pill that would make him live for 1,000 years. It didn't bother him that he would outlive family and friends. Mostly he thought he could play every computer console in 1,000 years. There were concerns about what physical condition you would have for the 1,000 years. For example, would you grow really old and frail or stay in your 20’s?

Car Driver

How would you drive a car? All the students said they would stick to the speed limit, although one of the lads said that there may be times when he might give it a bit of a go. It’s an interesting exercise to predict what kind of driver a student will be when they finally get behind the wheel. We make this prediction based on what we know of them, are they conservative, aggressive, afraid, timid.

Road rage, Alcohol and drugs

A person who is normally careful may speed or get angry with another driver if they are cut off or have a near miss. Things that happen can sometimes bring down our masks to reveal what is really inside. For example those who get drunk have their defences lowered which exposes what they really think or who they really are. If we are an angry person it will pop out when we are under pressure.

The Body is the soul’s car

The body is a vehicle for the soul. The soul is who you are; you make the decision and use your body to do things. What you do exposes who you are, what kind of person you are; whether you are kind, patient, angry afraid or a mix of all these things.

Courage

Roaarrr!!!!!!

Today we had a game of speed dictionary. Both groups drew a lion to represent the value; courage. Love was easy to draw as a love heart, friendship was easy, and two stick figures together. Life was harder, there were weird creatures some dead some alive, a couple of stick figures had a baby blob and by then we had worked out it was ‘life’.

Five things you value

Students were told to write five things they valued one per piece of paper. Things like footy, guitar, friend, family, pets, and music. Sometimes things go wrong in life and we lose what we value. So I asked them to give me one piece of paper. Now they weren’t really worried because this was just an exercise. But in real life it really does hurt when we lose our pet, or a loved one, or we have a sports injury which means we can’t play. One student shared that he would feel depressed he couldn’t play footy.

Welcome GuyLife Boat

Guy our school chaplain joined our small group today and helped out a flagging Rev. I’ve been shaking off a cold all week, arrived late to class and was basically somewhat out of it today so thanks mate for your input.

Values affect the choices we make

If you’re on a boat and you have to decide who gets kicked off your values will govern the choices that you make. Everyone picked on the ex prisoner because it was the easiest option. They can’t be trusted, they may re offend but mostly I think the students looked down on the ex prisoner as a social outcast. No picked on the wealthy business man who may have hurt more people without ever breaking the law.

Imprinted Values

Everyone has values like, stealing is wrong, war is bad, murder is wrong, telling the truth is good. We are brought up with these values but we know that they are real and true because these values on our hearts. We are each made in God’s image and the Ten Commandments are written on our hearts. That is why in every class we have done all students identify the same rules as being good, these rules happen to be the rules God has given to the world.

Spiritual photos

These pics represent two things. The first represents where the student is at spiritually and the second pic is what they have got out of the spirituality classes. The students were great at picking and explaining where they are at and what they have got out of the classes.

Pancake students

Having encouraged the students to reflect about their spiritual journey we thought it would be good to do something for their bodies as a way of having a break-up. It was interesting to see the class size grow and change as different students and teachers came by to see if they could have a pancake.

Pancakes

Guy cooked them on a BBQ, what an awesome idea. The pancakes were yummy.

Pancake guts (from Web)

We had a race to see who could eat x5 pancakes the quickest. Dylan won with a time of 35 seconds. Guy and our class teacher struggled because their pancakes were still very hot. We also had a contest with x3 pancakes for the less adventurous.
