Hi Thanks Connie, Marina and Elyse for being willing to share something of your spiritual journey. Truth, death and beyond Yes, because I’m scared of dieing as I’m not sure what happens after a person dies. No one has come back from the dead to tell us. Also I’d like to see what happens in the future. |

Exploring the soul Reach God We all agreed we had an eternal soul from birth and that it can develop and grow. But where does the soul come from and where does it go after we die. The students expressed their concern that there are many different ideas and religions, so it’s pretty confusing. Who we are Our identity is not really found in our body but rather in our soul. The soul is who we are and it’s the soul that controls the body. I am using my hands to type this blog right now. We use our bodies to express ourselves. |

Spiritual Pictionary Here are a couple of drawings from our pictionary game; Life and freedom. Both are good values to have; respecting everyone right to life and to be free. What are the things we value? Welcome to Shakara who joined our small group today as we explored what things we valued. We all agreed that family and friends were very important to us. Most of the students believed in God and that he had some part to play in making the world. |

Hobbies the Rev's dog Sarah the Rev's Fish During our small group we got sidetracked on to our hobbies. Two students sound like they are really gifted dancers and the other student likes running. My hobbies are fish keeping and my Dog Sarah. It’s great to have a hobby to enjoy. How belief and values affect the world We started our small group time with a quiz. First person to guess the person wins. Wrong guesses result in a deduction of -5 points. I am a man in history who believed in evolution and I wanted to produce a superior race by selective breeding. I discriminated against people who were disabled, homosexual and some races. Well done Marina who despite getting two guesses wrong was the first to work out that I was Hitler. He was a man that acted according to his beliefs and values. He believed certain people to be inferior so he killed them to achieve his aims, to impose his values on the world. |

A prison for the mind In the Matrix movie intelligent machines used people to generate power by hooking them up to a simulated world. It was a prison for their minds. The best form of control is one that isn’t obvious. For example fashions are a way of controlling people. To be accepted you need to wear a certain type of clothing style. To be happy we are told that we need a good job, home, relationship and fun. These are not bad in themselves but they don’t count for much when our lives fall apart. What happens if your friend or family dies in a car crash? Money, jewellery, clothes aren’t much comfort when you are hit with tragedy. There must be more to life than the material world. |
