Today we went somewhere uncomfortable, a place from which the students wanted to back away from. Let me retrace our steps and perhaps you will feel the same as they and I did.

Theory versus practice

The students were asked what 5 values they would impose on the world if they could. Some of the results were interesting. For example: conservation of the environment was a new suggestion. The others were more standard, no war, no terrorism, no illicit drugs, respect people’s opinions, equality and cheap food. Mostly our discussion wasn’t too serious. When asked what they would change at home several students wanted Foxtel channels back, more soft drink and KFC.

Spirituality Pics

Guy brought a heap of pics that he spread over the floor and the students were asked to pick a photo that best expressed where they were at spiritually and what they had thought of the classes. One student sees his sport as being spiritual for him. Another student liked the idea of hanging out having a good time with friends. The many different train tracks expressed one student’s view that he had many options spiritually and that once he had made that option it would be a straight path.
