What’s with the name? Dubai Carrot Man imposter
This is the first class to name itself. I suggested really cool names like, Cyber nuts and doofers heads but no, they stuck to their guns and went for Carrot Man. Now this man carrot is a super hero created by one of the students so there. Other suggestions were Jelly Bean Man, and Spider Pee (I wonder if they do). Big hey We are ‘big small’ group (that’s an oxymoron, like 'Army Intelligence'). Special Hi to: Chris PC (not because he hates Mac), Sasha, Laura, Lisa, Jess, Maddy, Clare (she’s without an eye poor thing), (e) Brooke, Miriam, Chris Family question Lots of Carrot Man students picked the family question. There was a lot of variation between those who were happy where they were and those that wanted to change. Oldest kids in their family were pretty settled; they liked the freedom that their responsibility earned them. Trust is very valuable and deserves to be nurtured and kept safe. Some who are not the oldest wanted to swap places with their siblings. Some wanted top spot because of they felt they couldn’t fill their eldest sibling shoes. |

Who am I? What is the soul like? Rev's Dream Car Today we explored the issue of our personal identity. Are we just a biological machine with a biological computer in our cranium, or is there more to us than meets the scapple? Do we have a soul and if so what does the soul do. Cool Car Aston Martin makes cool cars. Each student was asked to guess what kind of driver the person on their left would make. Most students it would seem will be responsible and careful drivers. Some might easily be distracted and other might have a tendency to be a bit of a hoon or have road rage. The body is the souls Car Our body is like a car for our soul. What we do with our body says something about who we are. We use our body to express what we feel, anger, friendship, humour. Where does the soul come from? Baby in mum's womb Some students shared that they thought the soul was something that is earned and developed through suffering, thought and payer. One student asked me when I thought a person becomes a human. I believe that we receive our soul at conception, life starts at conception. Some students thought life started from when the baby is born. |

Exploring our Values Big Bang De-evolution In our last class we explored the issue of our identity, particularly with respect to whether we have a soul. Today we discussed what our values are and what we value. A value would something like honesty, love, freedom, truth, honour, respect. We most value our family, friends, education and pets. The Value of Values Understanding what your values are and what you value will help you understand many of the decisions that you make. It will help you understand who you are, particularly your purpose in life. For example if you value your education you will make at effort to make the most of your time at school and perhaps plan to continue your education after school. If you value pets you will have some at home and you will enjoy looking after them. If you value music you will have an iPod or MP3 player so you can listen to music all the time. Big Bang and the meaning of life Most students believe in the big band and evolution; that we evolved from apes. So what then is our purpose if any? Some said they didn’t know what their purpose is, some said it was to live, enjoy life and then die. Some thought their purpose was to find out what their purpose is. Some said it was experience life, to reproduce so humanity could continue and then pass away. To serve my purpose and then die was another response. |

Values at work We need direction
We start by doing this really lame game where we are all on boat and we have to kick one person off. The trick is we all take a card that says who we are; a six year old child, a seventy year old grandfather, ex prisoner, reformed drug addict, wealthy business owner. The point of the exercise is to expose what our values are and how they work. Most agreed that the wealthy business owner should stay on the boat because people would be looking for him. Grandpa got the most votes to be chucked overboard because he had lived his life any way. What our Culture values We are encouraged to think value people based on their ability to produce and consume. A person’s value is often measured by their money, career, success, physical appearance. The direction of our lives You are what you spend???? Going back to the issue of purpose I challenged the students to think about the direction of their lives. For example, last week most students said they valued their friends because they enjoyed having fun with them. So he is the challenge. Should we be thinking that our friends are here for us or rather that we are here to be their friend? Perhaps instead of thinking about how people fulfil our lives maybe we need to think how we can fulfil other people’s lives. Is life about me or is it about you? |

Pancakes Yummmmmm Can I have a pancake?
Today we ate pancakes for our last class. Whoever made the first batch; you are an awesome pancake cooker. Not so good were the boys at the end. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that there was a lot of tossing involved? Open Tomb shirt Life after death can be sooner than you think Someone asked me if I got my shirt made. The answer is yes; thanks Roz for doing an awesome job. It has a patch with ‘the Rev’ on it, it has godsgap.net on the back and an open tomb down the bottom left front. Life after death? Lots of people wander what happens after you die? It’s hard to know because not many people have come back from the dead. Jesus died was buried and on the third day rose again to show us that death is not the end of our lives. |
