Archery Archery Uniform? My Class: LOST A mix up meant our first class was down the oval doing archery instead of being in the library with us. It only takes one little thing to go wrong but God knows what he is doing and it was great to have the class for a short time. Big apology to our teacher who was very nice about the mix up. It did take them awhile to get out of their Robin Hood costumes and come up to the library. When the class came I thanked them for being willing to stay after school so we could do our class. They looked stunned but I was only kidding. Hi to my small group
Hi to Shaun, Anthony, Mitch, Alicia, Sarah and Matt. We watched a PowerPoint presentation with a bunch of images related to spirituality. I’ve included some of my favourites. We also asked the students to fill a survey. Here are the results Most students believe in God or in some higher being. Is this the Pope's soul? Most students believe that they have a soul or spirit although some didn’t.All hoped there would be life after death This they hoped would mean being in God’s presence and having your fantasies fulfilled. One student hoped he would be at peace. Most students pray regularly but some said they would if in trouble or not anymore. Everyone has wondered or had an experience that indicated that life was more than just the physical world. Mostly students have not blamed God for things that have gone wrong in their lives Students were evenly divided in thinking that there was a plan for their lives and not believing that they have a destiny. Conclusion Why the Cross? We should have a great time in this class exploring the students beliefs about what kind of God or higher being they believe in and what difference this belief might have for their lives. This class is about encouraging a spiritual journey of discovery. |

What is God Like? Unknown God What my God indured Nature is god We watched two movies that depicted the director’s idea about God. The first “The Boss” was that God lived in his own world, that he was cranky, and that he made things happen in the world, thousands of births and deaths every moment. http://www.campfire.net.au/node/191 The Second “Foxhole” was a slam poem exploring the different gods the director had. A Father Christmas god that you ask things for and get upset with when you don’t get what you want. A crises god that you call on like the National Guard to rescue you from the disaster in your life. Religious scary god was rejected for a mechanic god who would fix your soul no questions asked. http://www.campfire.net.au/node/145 Draw god Students where given pencils and paper and told to draw their god. Those who didn’t believe in god had to draw the god they didn’t believe in. Joshua (not in my small group) drew a god that was buffed, in fact it looked a lot like him. I’ve included some of the drawings. I really liked the one where god is in the part of the universe that we can’t understand. This makes god really big and mysterious. My drawing was a cross with blood on it. Not because the cross is my god but that the cross represents best what my God is like. |

LOST 3rd Class Hope |
|
Hope Great achievements gives hope Sonic travel gives hope What comes to mind when you hear the word ‘Hope?’ The students were blank so I suggested that maybe they hoped that this class would go for five minutes and they would be able to go home early. I asked them what they hoped for in going to school. Someone said good marks which they hoped would lead to a satisfying job. Nick and Matt save the day Once again I struggled with technical issues. The program to run the short films was an .exe file and wouldn't install. Nick and Matt told me to load the program onto the desktop and it worked, yeah. Two films on hope The first film we watched as made by a Christian (http://www.campfire.net.au/node/184). Students were told to tell me what made it clear it was a Christian film. In summary it is about a boy with no hope, his parent’s party and night and ignores him during the day. There is no food, no company, and no guidance for this young boy and each day is the same. The film is called “Starting Over.” New life brings hope At the end in the credits a tribute is given to Jesus Christ. This implies that the boy in the movie grew up to be the film maker. It is a powerful film about having hope outside of yourself. As a boy there was no hope but hope was found in Jesus Christ. The second film was made by an atheist (http://www.campfire.net.au/node/201). Hope narrates the story about a man called Jim who has always had hope in his life. Some things that gave him hope where accomplishments, like man landing on the moon, people who fought for freedom, the concord. Jim during his life gave hope to other people. But Jim is dying and now hope is just pure emotion, existing only because of Jim’s hope in hope. In the end hope leaves Jim and fades away as he dies. |
