Learning to count Phil 3:1-11

Sometimes it isn’t until you lose something that you realise how important it was. Some people lose everything in a house fire and realise that what really counts is that the family survived. 

We count on so many things without ever really thinking about it. What hurts is when someone we have been counting on lets us down. It’s easy to become cynical, to become untrusting and to become self reliant. But we even disappoint ourselves. Disappointments can help us realise that we live in a broken world, in a place of broken dreams. Consider someone who can make his dream for the world come true. Someone whose dream is to transform this world into a place where there are no tears, no pain and no disappointments. A person who proved he could make his dream come true by dieing and rising up from the dead.  Jesus Christ has the power to transform your life, to set you free from the captivity of guilt, anger, shame and fear. Don’t count on yourself, or in anything other than Jesus Christ. The Rev
