![]() Courage ![]() Courage ![]() Courage Roaarrr!!!!!!Today we had a game of speed dictionary. Both groups drew a lion to represent the value; courage. Love was easy to draw as a love heart, friendship was easy, and two stick figures together. Life was harder, there were weird creatures some dead some alive, a couple of stick figures had a baby blob and by then we had worked out it was ‘life’. Five things you valueStudents were told to write five things they valued one per piece of paper. Things like footy, guitar, friend, family, pets, and music. Sometimes things go wrong in life and we lose what we value. So I asked them to give me one piece of paper. Now they weren’t really worried because this was just an exercise. But in real life it really does hurt when we lose our pet, or a loved one, or we have a sports injury which means we can’t play. One student shared that he would feel depressed he couldn’t play footy. Why we value stuff? It is interesting that we all value similar things like family and friends. This value is not just taught to us by our parents and society, this value is instinctive. So often we tend to value what makes our lives happier and comfortable. Vulnerable livesIf our lives are made up of things and people that make us happy then we are vulnerable. We can have arguments, have stuff stolen, and get injured or sick. My suggestion is that life is better enjoyed when it is lived outwardly rather than inwardly. It is better to give than receive, serve rather than be served, love rather than be loved. This is what makes us different to the animal kingdom. It is our ability to sacrifice ourselves for others. If you can learn to enjoy giving then your life will be far less vulnerable. You will enjoy giving your friendship, your effort your life rather than being dependant on those around you giving to you what you think you need.
