Spectacular thriller The sound and visuals of this film makes this a spectacular experience. Particularly for those of us who were able to see it at the cinemas. It will certainly give your sub woofer a good work out. As you would expect travelling to the sun is no easy trip so it isn't long before you are immersed in the terrifying experience of space travel. This is a great thriller with plenty of action, suspense, desperation and tension. Life on earth rests on the success of this mission. The smallest mistake doesn't just jeopardise the crew but billions of people back home. Engaging Characters Each crew member plays an important part in this film. They are all very believable with the exception of one which I will mention later. The extraordinary mission calls upon the crew to not only survive the many extreme disasters but also successfully fulfil their mission. Despite the fact that for the most part some of the crew members definitely don't get along they are forced to work together, even when that means sacrificing their own life for the sake of the mission.
The strength of this film What makes this movie a great experience is not knowing what is going to happen next. This of course is what thrillers are all about. There is certainly an eerie spooky feel to this film. It's something to do with the harshness of being in space and the strange attraction that the sun has on some of the crew. For example the Psych guy likes looking at the sun with a little shield protection he can (without permanent damage). It seems to be an almost religious or hypnotic experience which he becomes addicted to. The images of the sun are truly amazing in this film. There is also a hint of the supernatural which is difficult to explain. From here I must warn readers that what I will go on to say will spoil a lot of the thrill from those of you who have not seen it yet. My suggestion is that you watch it first and then come back and read the remainder of this blog. Plot Spoiler It should not be a surprise to read that things go wrong and the mission is put in danger. But it's how this happens which makes this film so thrilling. Years before a similar ship had been sent but it disappeared only to be found by our crew. They decide to investigate not out of curiosity but to salvage stuff from the ship and more importantly see if they can use the extra bomb in case their one fails. Spooky Stuff When they get on board there is all this dust throughout the ship. This dust is from the dead crew except for the captain who had sabotaged the mission, killed his crew and who got onto our crews ship. There is a really spooky part when the computer tells a crew member that there isn't enough oxygen to complete the mission. The crew member is confused and says that there should be enough for the amount of people on board only to be told that there is an extra crew member on board, this is the captain of the other ship who goes crazy trying to kill off our crew and sabotage the mission. Strange stuff This crazy guy is like his been burned from looking at the sun to long but it doesn't seem to slow him down. Also at the end of the film when the bomb is detonated the main character doesn't seem to die but reaches out to the force which has restarted the sun. It's strange but doesn't wreck this film Noble stuff What I appreciated about this film was what the crew were prepared to do to save the earth. They didn't just sacrifice their lives they went through hell first. It reminds me of what God was prepared to do to save earth. He sent his only son to die so that those who believe in Jesus Christ might not spiritually and physically perish but live forever. Rating 4 stars This has a lot of wow factor. The self sacrifice of crew members is inspiring, particularly since most of us are pretty selfish. This is a great edge of your seat thriller. |
