We watched two movies that depicted the director’s idea about God. The first “The Boss” was that God lived in his own world, that he was cranky, and that he made things happen in the world, thousands of births and deaths every moment. http://www.campfire.net.au/node/191

The Second “Foxhole” was a slam poem exploring the different gods the director had. A Father Christmas god that you ask things for and get upset with when you don’t get what you want. A crises god that you call on like the National Guard to rescue you from the disaster in your life. Religious scary god was rejected for a mechanic god who would fix your soul no questions asked. http://www.campfire.net.au/node/145

Draw god

Students where given pencils and paper and told to draw their god. Those who didn’t believe in god had to draw the god they didn’t believe in. Joshua (not in my small group) drew a god that was buffed, in fact it looked a lot like him. I’ve included some of the drawings. I really liked the one where god is in the part of the universe that we can’t understand. This makes god really big and mysterious. My drawing was a cross with blood on it. Not because the cross is my god but that the cross represents best what my God is like.

One student asked “do you believe that Jesus is a reincarnation of god the father?” My reply was 'no.' I believe that Jesus Christ is both fully man and fully God at the same time. He became man and was prepared to die on the cross for us. The student exclaimed that this was too hard to understand. This was the same student who drew “unknown god” (the god we can't understant) So I pointed out that if it's hard to understand then it must be very close to the truth, going by his drawing.

Bender god

Futurama

We watched an episode where Bender becomes a world/god to a tiny people who live on his body. However Bender learns the hard way that being god isn’t easy. When he tries to help he often brings disaster on the people he is trying to help. When he doesn’t help the people lose hope and fight amongst each other. In the end they all blow each other up in an atomic war. Helping would make people dependant and not helping made people lose hope. The trick was helping with a light touch so that people weren’t quite sure if god helped or not.
