HiMac and Jack Chilling out![]() This will definitely hurt ![]() Ouch Much of our time today was chilling out. We shared our most painful experience. Mostly stories were about being physically hurt, falling off play ground equipment, being punched in the face , etc. Some of it included emotional trauma which I can’t share in this blog. It really is interesting that pain, whether physical or emotional, is a universal experience. We all suffer. The world is crapOne student believes the world is mostly crappy. Global warming, violence, wars and the huge inequality of wealth throughout the world. He suggested that it would be good to redistribute wealth from the very rich to the very poor. Now I have to admit that I did the typical adult knock it down routine which I regret. It was great that the student told me I was too negative towards his idea. It is easy sometimes to knock down someone’s idea, or to point out its weakness without giving someone credit for expressing themselves. So this student taught me a very good lesson of taking it easy, listen to what is being said rather than pouncing all over it. Inequality and the sharing of wealth ![]() We are wealthy people ![]() What money can buy Practically speaking it is a crazy idea, none of us would want to give up our possessions and wealth to give it to the poor. But the heart of the idea is good. We are a selfish human race that exploit each other and we could do more to help those who are poor and powerless. Believing something we don’t understandEveryone who spoke up believed that they could believe in something they didn’t understand. Most students realise that they do this all the time. For example we: Who can really understand life and how it all works, even scientist can’t explain a lot of stuff that happens on our planet. Much of our lives is based on faith, we trust that when we wake up our world will continue to work the same way it did yesterday. For example we believe in gravity without understanding how it really works, we assume it will be there holding us down today and tomorrow. MiraclesSome events defy natural laws and rules, we call them miracles. We may not be able to explain how they happened but that doesn’t mean they didn’t happen or couldn’t happen. The power of moneyWe all agreed that all of us believed in money. It gives us the power to buy stuff and do stuff. Going to school is linked to getting a job so that money can be earned. |
