Psalm 100

Lifting the burden of Christmas

Christ’s birth was heralded with Angels saying

14    “Glory to God in the highest,

And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

Humming Bird
Be as free as a humming bird

The reason why Christ came in the first place is that we struggle to find and keep peace and goodwill toward all people. Christmas can be especially hard for us. It can remind us of our fractured families, of loved ones who have died or can’t be with us. Of love that turned to bitterness. Our lives are broken, lived in the context of a broken world.

‘Enter’ Jesus, who came to bring peace and yet we killed him, preferring to keep our control regardless of the mayhem we produce with every decision and action we make. If you are starting to feel stressed because of Christmas being only a few weeks away then let Psalm 100 can encourage you

Psalm 100 gives thanks to God and it gives thanks for God. As we work through this Psalm together let us take our eyes off our hurts, off our ever increasing “to do” list. Let’s take our eyes off ‘Christmas’ and give thanks to God. Let’s take our eyes off this mad time of year to give thanks for God, who is always sane.

May you be encouraged as you learn to give thanks to God, for God. the Rev
