The freakiest thing happened today. Tuesday’s class was a challenge, sometimes students just want to test you out. One such student was Liam. Any way this morning Liam turns up to today’s class. So I start bagging him about coming back for more. Then Tash tells me that Liam was in fact Alex his twin brother. That was a spin out for me, completely psyched me out. Later when he said he was not born from a womb I believed him, I really think they are the product of some experiment, only kidding. The RevmeisterAlex and the x2 Dean’s decided they wanted to go with the Rev when we split up into small groups. They put me through my paces but I really enjoyed our discussion. We discussed whether we would want to know the time of our death. Each of them said they would want to know when they would die if they could. They were concerned about making the most of the time they had left. When I asked them what they would do with their time, if they only had a month to live, I was really surprised with how they answered the question. I was expecting some goofy answers but they pretty much said that they would spend as much time with their families as they could. I shared with them what some people I have had contact with did when they knew they were going to die. Mostly people are concerned about making peace with God. Perhaps they haven’t gone to Church for a long time; perhaps they have unresolved issues in their lives that they want to straighten out before they meet their maker. Good QuestionOne of the Deans asked me whether I had ever been given a sign from God. This was a very disarming question because it came completely out of left field. Basically, my response was that I received signs from God all the time, that got their attention. God answers my prayers. For example I prayed for our spirituality class today that we might get passed mucking around and perhaps have a more serious discussion, and there we were having a good discussion. Spiritual issuesThis gave me an opportunity to lead our discussion into the spiritual area of life. We live in a physical world, that’s a pretty obvious statement to make. But this world is also a spiritual world, a world that we need to plug into more and more to really appreciate. Otherwise we busy ourselves with our education, jobs, career etc and end up dead without ever having considered life after death. Our spirituality class is about exploring the spiritual world. For example, where does our sense of right and wrong come from? Alex said parents; Dean said we make them up. I took Dean to be speaking from perhaps an evolutionary perspective so I asked them, historically who has spoken most about morals, and values. Evolution is only a very new theory. The answer is religions, Buddhists, Hindus, Islam, Christians all seek to explain the world from a spiritual vantage point. Anything that is moral, right and wrong, is spiritual. Scientist concern themselves primarily with biology not morality. Things like anger, guilt, fear, addictions are moral and spiritual in nature. This makes our spirituality class really important. Anyway I look forward to our next class, thanks Dean, Dean and Alex. |
