A scary film for kids
Excellent balance Mag (my daughter) said it was a bit scary, a good scary. So it had fright with just a pinch of horror. There was a good mix of creepy moments, like when the house rings DJ up on the phone several times. He thinks it’s a hoax so he calls back and then you can here the phone ringing across the street in the Monster House even though no one is home. Scary when people get sucked into the house and when the three kids find themselves in there. It’s Frightening when the house really goes crazy and chases the kids down the street. You will have to see the film to see how a Monster House gets mobile.
Excellent story This is much more than something to give kids a fright. It’s main lesson is understanding people. Nebbercracker is a really cranky, angry, nasty and very scary old bloke who lives in the house. He takes any toys, balls and kites that land on the lawn. But during the coarse of the movie you find out why his like that and it changes your mind about him. This is a ghost story, a love story and a story about a boy helping out a cranky old guy. DJ the main character has mercy and compassion on Nebbercracker. Some of the sub plots rang from puberty, dating the wrong people and most of all friendship. This is a rich story with many layers woven together so that you can sit back and enjoy the ride or you can allow the film to stimulate some thought. It is a film that may help you revisit some of your own relationship so that you might try to understand better some people you may have given up on. Excellent Character and action This film was so interesting and exciting that we forgot to eat our snakes (lollies). To really enjoy action in a film you have to relate to the characters, otherwise you just don’t care whether they get eaten or not. The three main characters were all likable in their own way and it was great to see a how friendships can grow through tough times. There was plenty of tension and action in this film leading up to the grand ending. Excellent Animation There are a lot of animation films out there but not all of them are as good as this film. Humans are really hard to animate. This was Toy Stories weakness all those years ago. It’s not just about detail it’s about how the character move, how they run, walk talk and express themselves. The lighting in this film was truly amazing, particularly when they are in the house which is dark and they are using their flash lights. Score 4.5 stars It scared my kids without pushing them completely over the edge. It had plenty of action, a touch of humour and a good lesson about friendship. |
