Philippians 2:5-11 - Listen to this message now or download as: MP3 Overcoming the power of anger: Philippians 2:5-11In the latest Hulk movie Eric Banner’s character explains that when he turns into the Hulk he has a growing feeling of anger, rage and power and that most of all he loves it. Anger more than any other emotion makes people pay attention, it makes people step away from us in fear. Anger is powerful. Living with an angry person is like having to walk on egg shells. And that’s the way they want it because that’s the way they control you. Christ left the peace of heaven and entered our world of anger. Anger took him and forsook him, it beat him and it killed him. Never in the fury of the world’s anger did Christ retaliate, instead he forgave the very ones who nailed him to the cross. How can you cope with an angry person? Don’t respond with anger because it only makes it worse. Love them in the same way Christ loved those who killed him. He was prepared to be unfairly treated, to be mocked, hurt and killed. Love is the only way to overcome anger. Bullets, tanks and chains only make the Hulk stronger, but the love of his girlfriend made the Hulk let go of his anger. May God give you the grace you need to overcome the power of anger with Christ’s love. The Rev |
