The painful game

Celebrity heads takes a great degree of patience. It can be very frustrating when those guessing either don’t ask questions or repeat questions or just take ages to work out who they are. To get things going each person was aloud to pick someone in the crowd to give them a clue. The clue for Princess Dianna was ‘car crash.’ The clue for Buddha was ‘You are a religious figure.’ The clue for Jesus was ...

‘The Rev likes you.’ Even with the clues it still took ages before we finished. The idea behind the game is to consider the different values of each celebrity. Here are some of the student’s responses. Dianna loved her kids and cared about mine victims. Jesus was interested in loving people. Buddha was religious.

Getting hassled

Dean picked out some tables in the shade not realising that it put us on the war path of some agro birds. The whole time we were there we got swooped. One swoop nearly had Alex under the table, we all thought it was very funny. After that I think we all tried not to look like it bothered us.

Catching up

We spent a bit of time catching up. Alex went snow boarding in New Zealand which I think would have been awesome. Josh went to a soccer game and Dean did heaps of bowling. I had a look at a video, on his web site, of him getting a strike. I showed some pictures of my motor bike, dog, fish and family. Dean took a photo of me during class which he is meant to send me so I can put it in this blog.

Some effort

While we were talking about stuff in general we did manage to come up with some rules for the world. Here are some of them: No violence, don’t be greedy, share your wealth with people who need it most, speak the truth and do not gossip, don’t disrespect people, don’t take what’s not yours, for everyone to be accepted in society. After this I made the point that these values correspond to God’s values which he has expressed in the Ten Commandments. We have God’s rules built into us but we don’t necessarily obey them.

Fighting

I did ask Alex whether he thought fighting with his brother was a significant breach of the rule ‘no violence.’ However, I think he was distracted, probably getting swooped.

Laughing rule

One rule suggested by a student was that everyone should laugh at the leader of North Korea. There would be a lot of people who would love the freedom to laugh at their leader but fear prevents them. Many people in the West would love to laugh at the leader of North Korea but they do not for fear of inciting further acts of madness. North Korea has upgraded our fear in the Western World. They do not share our values of liberty and freedom. The question then is what do we really value? What kind of world do we want to live in and what price are we willing to pay? These classes seek to encourage the students to consider what their values and beliefs are and how that affects the choices that they make.
