Spirituality Pics

Guy brought a heap of pics that he spread over the floor and the students were asked to pick a photo that best expressed where they were at spiritually and what they had thought of the classes. One student sees his sport as being spiritual for him. Another student liked the idea of hanging out having a good time with friends. The many different train tracks expressed one student’s view that he had many options spiritually and that once he had made that option it would be a straight path.

I didn’t get a chance to share my pics so I will put them in this blog anyway. The pic with the shadow of the cross over the man’s face best expresses how I felt before I committed my life to Jesus Christ. I felt trapped by the circumstances of my life. My parents got divorced when I was in primary school and I missed my dad who I didn’t get to see much. It felt like I was trapped in a cage of anger until Christ set me free. Tough times don’t mean you have to turn out bad.

The second pic represents how I feel being a chaplaincy volunteer. Surfing is fun, exciting and can also throw you around when you fall off. It has been great to be able to discuss spirituality with this class.

Death

Somehow we got onto the topic of dead people. One student related how he saw is grandpa in his open coffin. I related from my nursing experience that the freakiest thing about dead people is that they don’t move. You expect them to take a breath, to open their eyes or to protest when you move them around. We then discussed who we would choose to die. Everyone wanted to die quickly. We made up a story about how Shane was going to get hit by a bus when he wasn’t looking so that he wouldn’t see it coming. Another student wanted to die saving someone else. I suggested that many people that I have ministered to appreciated having time with their family and make their peace with God before they went.

Spirituality BBQ

The Gap Presbyterian Church invites all the Gap High School Students to come to our first spirituality BBQ. This is a free BBQ and will be followed by a time where Guy will share his testimony and journey as a Chaplain. There will be a music video from Swift Foot "Meant to live" and you will be able to meet the Rev on his own Turf. All year Ten Spirituality leaders are also invited. That means you Tash, B and Dave including the High School teachers who mark the role each time. See you there.
