Spiritual Journey

Spiritual train journey

One student chose a photo of people on a train to describe his spiritual journey. It was asked what it means to be on a spiritual journey. To me a spiritual journey is an adventure of discovery. I encouraged the students to explore the spiritual world. This involves trying to answer questions like; is there a God, what is that God like, how do I relate to this God, what is my place and purpose spiritually in this world. For some people it is a difficult concept to grasp because they have been taught to think only in terms of the physical world; education, job, relationships and family. Some students struggle to work out how God fits into their view of the world.

The man in the wheel chair represents a person who has endured hardships but continues to persevere. The boy looks cheeky, someone who has fun and enjoy life. The hang glider represents the enjoyment of the discovery, valuing the journey and not just the destination. The person parachuting is enjoying the freedom and excitement of falling with the safety of the parachute. So many people want to be completely free of any restrictions or boundaries but end up getting badly hurt.

Chatting

We finished off the class by talking about our families, brother and sisters. We discovered that only one student’s parents were still together. All the rest of our parents had been divorced. So in our class 4 out of 5 marriages had broken up. Some shared that parents divorce because they no longer like each other any more.

Invite to BBQ

Each of the students was invited to come to our special spirituality BBQ at the Gap Presbyterian Church on the 29th Oct at 5:30pm. This is a free BBQ with free drinks. Guy Hawkins will be sharing his story and there will be a music video by Swift Foot “Meant to live.” All Gap High School students are welcome to come. See you there.
